About project

Welcome to Nauka&Zhizn (Science&Life), the oldest Russian popular science magazine.

Its first issue came out in 1890. Some years later its publication temporary discontinued and renewed in 1934. Since then Science&Life has been the most favourite and well-known popular science monthly in Russia.

Among a variety of Russian-translated versions of foreign magazines, Science&Life is one of the few monthly editions that are completely made in Russia. The magazine focuses on papers written firsthand by researchers and experts, who provide comprehensive information in an entertaining manner. Renowned Russian scientists, inventors, doctors, travellers deliver their ideas, views and impressions to our readers. Science&Life regularly publishes reports from leading research centres, expeditions, exhibitions and conferences.

The magazine issues include papers on the latest developments in science, technology, innovations, medicine, economy, as well as features concerning languages, art, culture and education. Historical essays, biographies of famous persons, stories about old Russian towns occupy an honoured place in the magazine's pages.

Science&Life is a magazine for family reading. There are many publications, including competitions, which are interesting for children and teenagers. Gardeners, pet fanciers and DIY enthusiasts can find a lot of useful information. Each issue contains a new crossword, entertaining puzzles and chess problems.

Science&Life is read everywhere in the Russian-speaking world. Our subscribers live not only in Russia, but also in the CIS countries, Baltic countries, Germany, the USA, Israel, Canada and other countries. Now, for the first time in its more than a century history, the magazine addresses to English-speaking readers, who are interested in Russian culture, science and history.

Since January 2005, lists of contents, headlines, paper summaries and some research news are available in English. Full translation of the most interesting articles is a matter of our future plans. If you are interested in a paper, which has not been translated yet, you can still order a paid translation.
